About the artist
I’ve been a Graphic Artist/Designer since 2008, working primarily in web, logo and print graphics and layout. However back in early 2010, I decided to shift my focus to fine art illustration and photography. Something that I have always had a love for. It was during this time that I’ve developed my ‘Modern Vintage’ style and chose to direct my attention to the world of Publishing. Since then I’ve had the privilege to work with several published and self published authors to create the perfect illustrations for their book cover.
Modern Vintage
I remember a moment in college when I approached my art Professor to ask a question about a technique I had read about in an Art History class. The Professor was able to give me a definition of the technique, but was unable to explain the actual process or its uses. He knew no more that me at that moment. This happened several more times over the next few years, and would eventually lead me down a path away from the current modern art era to seek the methods of the great artists of the past and the creation of Modern Vintage.
Modern Vintage is a realistic style that mimics the coloring and arrangements of classical art through traditional medium and techniques. My illustrations are created using oil paints on canvas, and done in several thin layers to provide depth and form. I work in many different subjects such as surreal, sci-fi, horror, fiction, mystery, still life, people, studies, as well as others. My photography is film not digital and all hand developed using alternative processes to achieve that vintage look.
While my illustrations are traditional in nature, the finished covers including all typography will be digital and compatible for which either route you would like to take, print or ebook.
